Dr. Brad Petersen is the owner of Petersen Pet Hospital. He grew up in Cedar Rapids and graduated from Kennedy High School. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science in 1993 and his veterinary degree in 1998, both from Iowa State University.
Dr. Emily Saunders knew at a young age that she would want to practice veterinary medicine. She grew up in the Twin Cities of Minnesota and volunteered at humane societies and worked at two separate veterinary hospitals. She grew up with many different species of pets including dogs, cats, guinea pigs, hamsters, birds and even hermit crabs.
Dr. McGinty is an associate veterinarian, originally from Sac City, a small town in Northwest Iowa. He would spend his summers caring for his neighbor’s pets and playing outside with his family dog and cat. It was during this time that he first discovered his love of animals and his interest in the human-animal bond.
Dr. Krystal Knutson is an associate veterinarian, originally from Forest City, a small town in northern Iowa. She grew up on an acreage with dogs, cats, and horses, and has known from a very young age that she wanted to be a veterinarian.
Dr. Hannah Green is an associate veterinarian at Petersen Pet Hospital. She is originally from Cedar Rapids and graduated from Linn-Mar High School. Between visiting her grandparent’s farm with bunnies, kittens, sheep and llamas, caring for neighbor’s pets, and working at a boarding facility, she knew from a young age that she was passionate about working with animals.

Jennifer is the Practice Manager at Petersen Pet Hospital. She and her husband Tom are owned by a Corgi, Ruby and two cats, Juniper and Fletcher. Jennifer grew up in Bettendorf and graduated from UNI. Jennifer has worked in veterinary clinics in Iowa, Minnesota and Oklahoma.
Kim is a native from Vermont and moved to Iowa in 1992. She has worked in the veterinary field for 14 years and has been employed with Petersen Pet Hospital since 2005. Since a very young age, she has had compassion for animals.
Alyssa is the Client Care Specialist Supervisor for Petersen Pet Hospital. She grew up in Center Point, Iowa but currently resides in Marion with her partner and son Hallie! Alyssa has a passion for rescuing animals. She currently has four cats and a Border Collie/Blue Heeler named Willow. When not busy raising her son, or caring for her fur-kids, she spends her free time as a singer/songwriter. Alyssa's favorite performance is when she played with her band at the Iowa State Fair! She looks forward to meeting all of the Petersen Pet Hospital clients and ensuring they have the best customer service experience possible.
Brittany is a client care specialist at Petersen Pet Hospital. She grew up in San Antonio, Texas, and moved to Iowa a few years ago with her family. Growing up, her family always had pets, and Brittany doesn’t feel that a house is a home unless there is a furry family member in it.
Jolee has been a Client Care Specialist at Petersen Pet Hospital since 2021. She purchased a home with her partner Cameron in Cedar Rapids after graduating from Kirkwood Community College. Jolee has always had a passion for animals.
After working full-time in her hometown, Jessika began the Veterinary Technician program at Kirkwood Community College. She graduated from Kirkwood in May 2015 after two years of schooling and a full-time summer internship. In August 2015, she passed the Veterinary Technician National Exam and became a Registered Veterinary Technician. During her schooling and shortly after graduating, Jessika worked full-time at a veterinary clinic in Waterloo before joining the Petersen Pet Hospital team in January 2016.
Kyla is a native Cedar Rapidian who worked in the human optometric field for many years before deciding on a career change to work with animals. She went back to school at Kirkwood in 2013 and graduated from the Veterinary Technician program in 2015.
Stacy is a Registered Veterinary Technician here at Petersen Pet Hospital. She always has a positive attitude and is ready to help an animal whenever she can. Her favorite things to do as a vet tech include performing teeth cleanings, assisting the doctors in surgery, and monitoring anesthesia.
Nicole is a registered veterinary technician with Petersen Pet Hospital. She grew up in Oxford, IA until 2015 when her family moved to Harpers Ferry, IA. Nicole graduated from Waukon High School in 2019 and then moved to Cedar Rapids to attend Kirkwood Community College.
Briana is a registered veterinary technician at Petersen Pet Hospital. She grew up in eastern Iowa on her family farm, sparking her love for animals. Upon high school graduation, she enrolled in the Veterinary Technician program at Kirkwood and graduated in 2017.
Hailey has always had a love for animals. She grew up in Marion, Iowa and graduated from Marion High School in 2013. She graduated from Kirkwood Veterinary Tech program and became registered in 2017. Hailey has 3 cats - Tears, Diesel, and Fred along with 1 dog Milo. Her favorite things to do as a veterinary technician are blood draws and monitoring anesthesia. Her hobbies are crafting, baking, and archery.
Crysti is a Registered Veterinary Technician at Petersen Pet Hospital. She graduated from Central City High School in 1995. In 1998 Crysti completed the Veterinary Technician Program at Kirkwood Community College and has been working in the field ever since. Crysti enjoys outside yard work, gardening, crafting, doing random odd jobs for others, and of course, spending time with her 2 cats, Paisley and Meowch and her dog, Chip.
Brianna has been a Veterinary Technician at Petersen Pet Hospital since 2021. Her passion for animals began at a young age and grew as she volunteered and worked at the local animal shelter.
Nicole is a Registered Veterinary Technician at Petersen Pet Hospital. She graduated from Bel-Rea Institute of Animal Technology in Denver Colorado in 2006. Nicole is a native Iowan, having grown up in Cedar Rapids. Working with animals has always been a passion of Nicole's. She has 4 dogs that let her live in their house. Nicole competes in flyball and frisbee with her dogs.
Linda is a Veterinary Assistant at Petersen Pet Hospital. She graduated from St. John High School in Independence and the Veterinary Technician program at the Medical Institute of Minnesota in Minneapolis.
Bergen is a veterinary assistant at Petersen Pet Hospital. Bergen grew up in a small town called Keota and the people in her community always knew her as the goofy girl with a contagious smile and a genuine love for animals. Bergen graduated from high school there in 2019. After graduating high school, she enrolled in the Humane Officer Training Program at Kirkwood Community College and moved to Cedar Rapids.
Emma is a Veterinary Assistant at Petersen Pet Hospital. She graduated from East Buchanan High School in 2021 and plans on attending the Veterinary Technician program at Kirkwood in 2022.
Addison is a veterinary assistant at Petersen Pet Hospital. She spent most of her childhood in Colorado and moved to Cedar Rapids six years ago. She has always had a passion for animals and their well-being. Over the last 10 years, she has owned and cared for well over 50 animals, and currently has dogs, chinchillas, hamsters, mice, birds, and various reptiles.
Tyrany is a veterinary assistant at Petersen Pet Hospital. She grew up on a farm in the Amana Colonies. She participated in horse shows as a child, where her spark for animals grew. She graduated from Clear Creek Amana High School in 2015 and attended Kirkwood afterwards. She has one dog- Trixie and two cats – Ginger and Juniper. Her hobbies include crafting, cooking, camping, and kayaking.
Ashlyn is a veterinary assistant at Petersen Pet hospital. She grew up in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and graduated from Iowa State University in 2023 with an Animal Science degree.
She was raised in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and graduated from Iowa State University in 2023.
Ashlyn has a chocolate lab Moose that she enjoys taking swimming whenever she gets the chance.
Lindsey is a Veterinary Assistant at Petersen Pet Hospital. She was born and raised in the Cedar Rapids/Hiawatha area. Lindsey went to Xavier and played 4 years of volleyball while there. She went to Waldorf University for 1.5 years before moving back to the Cedar Rapids area to be closer to family. She now helps coach volleyball at Adrenaline Volleyball Academy. Lindsey has 3 dogs and couldn't image life without her furry babies.
Danielle is a Veterinary Assistant at Petersen Pet Hospital. She grew up helping on her family farm with dairy goats and their own hatchery. Danielle graduated from North Linn High School in 2023 and plans to attend the Kirkwood Veterinary Technician program in 2024.
Kalyssa is a Veterinary Assistant at Petersen Pet Hospital. She graduated from Prairie High School in 2022. Kalyssa is currently in her first year at Kirkwood in the Veterinary Technician Program. She has always know that she wanted to work in veterinary medicine since she was a child
Sam is a Veterinary Assistant at Petersen Pet Hospital. She was born and raised in Cedar Rapids and graduated from Jefferson High School in 2022. Sam is currently in her first year of the Veterinary Technology program at Kirkwood Community College. She has always had a passion for animals since she was young. When Sam’s family adopted their dog, Jasmine, from a rescue shelter it helped solidify her future. In her free time, Sam enjoys reading, playing and listening to music, and spending time with her cat Pickles.
