Veterinarians

Brad Petersen, DVM

Owner/ Veterinarian

Dr. Brad Petersen is the owner of Petersen Pet Hospital. He grew up in Cedar Rapids and graduated from Kennedy High School. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science in 1993 and his veterinary degree in 1998, both from Iowa State University.

Emily Saunders, DVM

Owner/ Veterinarian

Dr. Emily Saunders knew at a young age that she would want to practice veterinary medicine. She grew up in the Twin Cities of Minnesota and volunteered at humane societies and worked at two separate veterinary hospitals. She grew up with many different species of pets including dogs, cats, guinea pigs, hamsters, birds and even hermit crabs.

Steven McGinty, DVM

Associate Veterinarian

Dr. McGinty is an associate veterinarian, originally from Sac City, a small town in Northwest Iowa. He would spend his summers caring for his neighbor’s pets and playing outside with his family dog and cat. It was during this time that he first discovered his love of animals and his interest in the human-animal bond.

Krystal Knutson, DVM

Associate Veterinarian

Dr. Krystal Knutson is an associate veterinarian, originally from Forest City, a small town in northern Iowa. She grew up on an acreage with dogs, cats, and horses, and has known from a very young age that she wanted to be a veterinarian.

Hannah Green, DVM

Associate Veterinarian

Dr. Hannah Green is an associate veterinarian at Petersen Pet Hospital. She is originally from Cedar Rapids and graduated from Linn-Mar High School. Between visiting her grandparent’s farm with bunnies, kittens, sheep and llamas, caring for neighbor’s pets, and working at a boarding facility, she knew from a young age that she was passionate about working with animals.

Carol do Carmo, DVM

Associate Veterinarian

Carolina do Carmo is an associate veterinarian at Petersen Pet Hospital. She received her veterinary medicine license in Iowa and the United States in January 2022. She was born and raised in Brazil, where she completed her veterinary degree in 2019, from Universidade Federal de Lavras.

Sarah Young, DVM

Associate Veterinarian

Dr. Sarah Young is an associate veterinarian at Petersen Pet Hospital. She originally grew up in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and graduated from Washington High School. She knew at a young age that she wanted to be a veterinarian and attended Iowa State University. She received her Bachelor of Science...

Sarah

Practice Manager

Sarah is the Practice Manager at Petersen Pet Hospital. She lives in Cedar Rapids with her husband, Ethan, her children, Norah and Miles, and her dog, Kaia, a Shiba Inu.

Kim

Office Manager

Kim is a native from Vermont and moved to Iowa in 1992. She has worked in the veterinary field for 14 years and has been employed with Petersen Pet Hospital since 2005. Since a very young age, she has had compassion for animals.

Brittany

Client Care Specialist

Brittany is a client care specialist at Petersen Pet Hospital. She grew up in San Antonio, Texas, and moved to Iowa a few years ago with her family. Growing up, her family always had pets, and Brittany doesn’t feel that a house is a home unless there is a furry family member in it.

Amber

Client Care Specialist

Amber is a Client Care Specialist at Petersen Pet Hospital. She grew up on the Big Island of Hawaii. Growing up she always had a passion for animals. She had pets that ranged from dogs and cats to rabbits, guinea pigs, chickens, and more. She also enjoyed activities like horseback riding and dog agility.

Client Care Specialist

Rachael is a client care specialist at Petersen Pet Hospital. She grew up in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, moved to San Diego, California, and recently purchased her first house with her husband in Cedar Rapids.

Jolee

Client Care Specialist

Jolee is a client care specialist at Petersen Pet Hospital and is currently finishing up her Associates's degree at Kirkwood Community College. She grew up in the small town of Keota, Iowa, and recently purchased her first house with her boyfriend in Cedar Rapids.
