Lydia is a Kennel Assistant here at Petersen Pet Hospital. She was raised in Hiawatha and graduated as valedictorian from John F. Kennedy High School in May 2021. She was a proud four-year member of JFK’s swimming and dive team and loved the team camaraderie.
Lydia grew up with many pets: a Shih Tzu (Mimi), hermit crabs, fish, and several hamsters. She now has two dogs (Lola, a 1-year-old black lab, and Stella, a 7-year old miniature schnauzer), and one cat (Chico, a mix). Fun fact: Lydia fostered her cat Chico and his two brothers (they were one week old) when she was 13-years old! Growing up, Lydia has always loved animals and caring for those who can’t help themselves. She’s also had the pleasure of watching her older cousin become a veterinarian!
Lydia is going to be a first-year student at Kirkwood Community College in the fall of 2021. She plans to pursue pre-veterinary studies and earn her Associate in Animal Science degree after her two years at Kirkwood. She then plans to attend Iowa State College of Veterinary Medicine for Veterinary School through their 2-year pathway to Veterinary Medicine program.
She currently lives at home in Hiawatha with her mom, younger brother, dogs, and cat. In her free time, Lydia enjoys spending time with her best friends, going to the pool, traveling, baking, and adventuring outdoors. She also enjoys time with family around a fire and roasting marshmallows in the summer months. During the winter, she loves to go skiing!!
