Education: Kirkwood Community College
Kyla is a native Cedar Rapidian who worked in the human optometric field for many years before deciding on a career change. She went back to school at Kirkwood in 2013 and graduated from the Veterinary Technician program in 2015 where she received the Veterinary Technician of The Year award. In the summer of 2017 she received her Fear Free Certification. This certification means that she has been educated in the ways of making the entire process of taking your pet to the veterinary office much less stressful and fearful.
She grew up with many animals including fish, dogs, hermit crabs, guinea pigs, rabbits, birds, frogs, snakes and even tarantulas. She has always considered them family rather than pets, and has a deep respect and love for all creatures great and small.
She shares her home with her husband, Matt, and their two fur-children; Izzy, a Maltese/Pomeranian mix and Gidget, a Papillion/Jack Russell Terrier mix. When she’s not spending time cuddling or playing with her fur-babies, she enjoys gardening, hiking, camping, playing guitar, drawing, traveling, collecting penguins, and experiencing great food and wine.
