Meet our Staff

Veterinarians

Dr. Petersen is the owner of Petersen Pet Hospital P.C. He was born and raised in Cedar Rapids, IA and attended Iowa State University where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science and a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1998. After practicing in Farley, IA and Indianola, IA he joined a local veterinarian clinic in Cedar Rapids, IA where he practiced for 2 1/2 years before opening Petersen Pet Hospital P.C.

Emily Saunders was born in Eagan, Minnesota and attended undergraduate at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls where she graduated with a B.S. in biology and a minor in chemistry. She graduated from Iowa State University with a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. She has experience working at different small animal practices for many years holding a variety of positions. She lives on a farm with her husband Brian, a German Shepard named Jake; two cats, Kaylee and Snydley; and a herd of Holsteins and Brown Swiss

Dr. Ackman was born in Cedar Rapids, IA and attended Wartburg College. He received a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Iowa State University in 1989 and spent 6 years working in the Waverly area before coming to Cedar Rapids. Dr. Ackman divides his time between Petersen Pet Hospital and Kirkwood Community College where he is an Assistant Professor in the Animal Health Technology Department

Veterinarian Technicians

Sarah grew up in Spencer, IA. She graduated from Iowa State University in 2003 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Ecology. In May 2005, Sarah graduated from Kirkwood Community College with a degree in Veterinary Technology.

Kay is originally from Manchester, IA. She recieved a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Art and Graphic Design from Mt. Mercy College in 2004. She graduated from the Veterinary Technician program at Kirkwood Community College in May 2008.

Kim is originally from Mt. Vernon, IA and recently moved back from Minneapolis, MN. She graduated in 1998 from Iowa State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Advertising. In 2004, she graduated from Argosy University with a degree in Veterinary Technology.

Receptionists

Kim M. is originally from Vermont and moved to Cedar Rapids in 1993. She has worked in the veterinary field since 2002 as a receptionist.

Keri grew up in Alburnett, IA and works as a full-time receptionist for Petersen Pet Hospital.

Receptionist Assistants

Alicia went to Kirkwood Community College and graduated in May 2009 as a Veterinary Assistant. She has joined our team and is working full-time.
